Would you rather have people like you for your looks, your money, or your you? Sometimes we all get caught up in trying to be popular. If I act like this and dress like this, more people will like me. If I wear what is cool and drive a heavily advertised car, I will be surrounded by friends. If I say what people want to hear, I will have a huge following.
One of the things that I have learned on the rags to riches and back to rags trip ( a few times so far) has been that the stupidest thing to do in life is try to impress people who would not like you for you. Watching your success drain away is hard to do, but even harder if you also lose your so-called friends.
I guess right now I am about half way back up to "riches" and the most important thing that I have is my family and true friends. When I was younger I was overly concerned with having friends. Now, I see the error of my ways.
Friends who like you for you are true friends. Losing friends that do not like you for you is no big loss.
I wish someone would have told me that when I was younger.
