Blah, blah, blah

My theory

My theory is this:

1. Round up every self-made millionaire in this country.

2. Force them to sell off everything that they own.

3. Take the cash and divide it up equally among those in poverty.

4. In 5 years, survey both groups.

I already know the results and so do most folks. I have seen it happen in my own life. The self-made will be self-made again. And wealthy. Those who got the money will be in poverty again. Except that they will own more expensive shoes, clothes, and electronics.

"The war on poverty" started by LBJ has not worked. It will not work because it gives people things that they did not work for. By the same token, taking from people who do work does nothing but make them mad and take away any incentive to do better.

As we go deeper into socialism to try and fix poverty, we will do nothing but go deeper into socialism. Hard work for the sake of hard work will not work. Hard work should equal a reward. There has to be a carrot on a stick to keep people motivated. If we let people work hard, only to have the carrot removed at the last minute, hard work will become a thing of the past. When there is no incentive for us to work hard, and no trappings of success, who will give money to those in poverty?

A big mistake has been made.

Socialism has failed in every country. China has abandoned it for capitalism. Does Obama know something other don't?

Very true.  What I find so striking is how short-sighted everyone has become.  The free market has had fabulous success and because we are in a down cycle (aggravated by members of Congress refusing to do anything about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) we throw that system under the bus for a system that has failed time and time again all over the world?!?!  Convict those guilty of fraud, don't abandon the system.

Kevin:

Great points on this post.  We are becoming more and more a socialistic country.
