51% just voted themselves a handout

The results are in. 51% of Americans voted themselves a handout. At least they are hoping for a handout. The 51% are hoping that our new President taxes the "rich" business owners like he said that he would. All of those "wealthy" business owners that gross 250K from their businesses better look out.

So what kind of handouts is he going to give everyone? Is he going to pay our mortgages so we can sit on our asses and play computer games all day? Is he going to pay for able bodied young men to shack up with their "welfare mommas"? Are the producers of this country going to basically pay for those who refuse to work? I think it will be all of the above plus more. Lots more.

America has spoken. They have chosen security over the chance to get ahead. $18/hour, a living wage as they call it, will become the best that we can hope for. Sell yourself for $18 per hour and some good benefits. That way you can live a decent mediocre life and play computer games when you get home. That way you can party every night and not have to worry about anything. Yep, $18 per hour is very secure. I guess lofty goals are out with Americans now.

The reward for busting your rear has now been lowered. "Hey young person, if there was a chance that you could work 18 hours a day for 7 days a week, for 20 years and retire wealthy, would you take it? Or would you rather work 40 years at $18 per hour? Nice and safe, but no chance to ever really get ahead. Your choice." It looks like the secure thing just won out.

America was just sold a bill of goods that is going to cost us dearly. Just my humble opinion. Rewarding failure, punishing success, totally unAmerican. Like I said in my post this morning...The Thrill Is Gone....

Those 51% are in for a big surprise!!! I can't believe they are that naive.

Don't hold your breath waiting for your handout. How often do election year promises actually materialize into tangible laws?

While my educated opinion and hence vote did not prevail, we must accept the outcome. It is what it is. I wish, hope and pray only the best for the new administration and hope that our country will overcome the troubling situation we find ourselves in and will meet the challenges of the difficult times ahead.

As the last President from the incoming party once said... "It's time to get back to business and to go back to work for the American people".

It won't work.  When the rich get poorer, the poor get poorer...this little experiment in socialism won't work but it gives conservatives the opportunity to take back and rebuild the party.  We have been living with a false sense of security with a RINO in the WH and a RINO as our presidential candidate.  It never works and hopefully we have learned something.  Reagan came out of the disaster that was Jimmy Carter, remember.

Sadly, we are going to suffer along with everyone else, but at the end of the day, those on the top always land on their feet and the bottom feeders will ALWAYS remain on the bottom, because of their bad decisions and bad habits.

The rank and file Democrats don't even realize they have just rewarded themselves with their own Vichy government, with George Soros at the helm.  Poor ba^%$@ds, they won't even know what hit them until it is too late.

BTW - "Здравствуйте!" - CRACKS me up!  LOL    WOLVERINES!

Well, now we can sit back and enjoy the show!!! Personally, eveyone I know is going to put their nose to the grindstone for the next four years and work harder! Their companies are already putting their CPA's to work to funnel their money to tax breaks.....

Young people are really going to get an education on government and politics.

I think the problem is both party's, last year congress and our President worked less days then any other Congress and President in History.  The funny thing is they also gave themselves a raise.

Nothing is going to pass if Congress will not support it.  So it really does not matter who is sitting at the White House.  There are no 100% guarantees in politics.

Kevin,

All I really want to know is under Obama how to I sign up to get my mortgage and gas paid like that one "informed" voter stated in the video?

Angelia, The dems now control the congress and presidency. Too much power in one groups hands....with no one to really keep them in check for the next four years except the senate.

I found it interesting that Diane Sawyer said this morning that 52% of those polled that make over $200,000 a year voted to raise their own taxes!! What rational person does that?

Posted by Cheri Smith, Realtor Prudential Gary Greene (Prudential Gary Greene, Cypress TX) over 10 years ago

Now that' the kind of attitude that will really help our country.

That the people who voted for Obama did so to get a handout is untrue. SOME people may have, but the majority thought he was best for the country. I'm a small business Owner, I don't expect anything from the government in the way of a handout. And my husband nd I both voted Obama. If you listen to his speeches, he advocates rewarding work and effort, not sloth.

Kevin, you might want to change the title to 53%

53% Obama       46%   McCain

So...this is where the sour grapes crowd is haning out. The rest of AR seems to be happy, proud and excited by this historical election.

Posted by Scott Smith, Gloucester & Rockport, Massachusetts (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage) over 10 years ago

Scott, We are not "sour grapes". Did you suddenly expect us to change our mind on policy  just because Obama was elected? Did you suddenly expect us to like him? We still aren't drinking the Kool-aid. We can shake hands with the "winner" of this game and all that but there are future games and playoffs yet to be played. None of us will suddenly become Obama lovers! Will we respect the fact that he is now going to be president? Sure. Does that mean we will like it? No. We will just regroup and come back stronger next time or die trying. If that is sour grapes to  you then I hope you aren't the owner of  a winery.

I actually heard on a small local radio station this morning that a woman caller said that she believes that Obama will have a program that will help her make her house payment and car payment.  The announcer lost it!

Kevin - believe it or not that 51% included many so called "affluent" liberals.

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) over 10 years ago

The fact that one person out there really believes that any programs from Obama are going to pay mortgage payments and buy gas for your car means there are tons more thinking the same.

What a joke!  Pure laziness.

Scott, Leslie and Linda Mae,

Are you telling me that if the election had gone the other way, you would be happy with it?  You can not be honest and tell me this is true.  You have done nothing but put McCain down and now you would be fine and ready to move on with results that you do not like.  I don't think so.

Posted by John Hersey, e-PRO Realtor (Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Homesale Realty) over 10 years ago

he advocates rewarding work and effort, not sloth.  This may be partially true, and I emphasize may and partially. However, his proposals advocate penalizing success.

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) over 10 years ago

John ~ Honesty is not what you are going to get from a bunch of Obama followers.

Posted by Broker Nick, Broker Nick Relocation Broker Service (South Florida Real Estate & Development, Inc.) over 10 years ago

Lets see if I get this right. Bush cuts taxes for the ultra wealthy and then sends checks to everyone making under $75,000 a year. The Wall Street bankers have financial troubles so he sends $700 billion of tax payer money to wealthy investment bankers so they can become even wealthier. Obama wants to cut taxes for middle class and lower incomes and that is a hand out.

The last 8 years have been the biggest government handouts in history. The hand outs went to bankers and Wall Street types with connections in Washington. Pushing papers 18 hours a day in an office on Wall Street might be considered hard work for a 28 year old making $28 million a year at Hedge Funds but factory workers fireman and janitors work just as hard if not harder.

For some people security and benifits are better than risk and reward. Its not how many hours or how hard you work it is what you do. It takes me the same amount of hours to sell a $500,000 home as it takes to sell a $5million home. Big difference in my pay.

1This man with no leadership experience or military or foreign policy experience (actually I could go on and on) told a bunch of empty promises to lower and middle class people and received an obnoxious amount of campaign monies and bought the Presidency, pure and simple! He Did not have any volunteers, it was told today that they were all being paid!    Israel has got to be worried.

I'm out here in California trying to figure out how our Republican Govenor thinks it's ok to raise sales taxes, and tax services when this economy is in such a ditch.  How is it that our elected officials don't realize they SPEND TOO MUCH!  Stop spending, please!

Hopefully Obama won't be able to accomplish most of these ambitions once he gets in.  Politicians make a lot of promises, but seldom get them accomplished.  Once he starts showing his true colors, my hope is that Americans will wake up just like they did with Jimmy Carter.

Rob: You posted: Hopefully Obama won't be able to accomplish most of these ambitions once he gets in. What is it that you do not want the President-elect to accomplish? We all know that the economy is bad right now, but I for one am hoping that it gets better. Obama haa some very good ideas and plans and I hope he is able to make some of them work. I didn't gross $400,000 last year, so my taxes won't be going up. I imagine most real estate professionals only have insurance throught their spouses or they pay a fortune for it, so any improvement in health insurance would be a good thing. Yes? Ending the war? I hope he is able to bring the troops home. Better schools? Yes. Smaller government? I sure hope so.

Posted by Scott Smith, Gloucester & Rockport, Massachusetts (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage) over 10 years ago

Oh, now it is 400,000 dollars. Obama said $250,000, then he said $200,000...Biden said $180,000...Bill Richardson said $150,000. Bill Clinton put it at $42,000. Obama said he wanted to get back to the Clinton tax plan.

Get it straight liberals, you have been duped.
