Down our throats

Now I am convinced. I am sure of it. Liberals actually hope that the price of gas stays high. $4 per gallon is probably not high enough for them, but it is a start. My feelings or fact? It is pretty obvious.

The Dems in Congress just keep voting against us drilling in our own country. We are dependant on foreign countries for our oil and we cannot drill for our own. OPEC can basically decide how much to charge us for a barrel of oil. Saudi and it's friends probably love that. A lotta help there.

Liberals and Dems love anything that hurts America. Oh, they act like that is not the case, but it is quite obvious to anyone paying attention. Lets not drill here in our own country where there is plenty. Lets keep telling everyone how we need alternative types of energy. OK, lets get some alternative types going. But, in the meantime, lets drill here. It is called good management or common sense. Lets just do it.

But no. Libs hate the idea of us getting off foreign oil. They want us all to give up one more of our freedoms. Why should we be allowed to drive around in our own car when some people cannot. It is just not fair that someone with a car can go wherever they want to, and when they want to, when someone else must wait for a bus to take them around town.

Mass transit seems to make them happy. We can all ride the bus or light rail when we need to go somewhere. We can pay higher taxes to sponsor these types of transit systems, and then, when we need to go somewhere, we can go wherever the route goes. What fun.

America is built on freedom. Freedom to go where one wants, when one wants. No waiting for some govt clerk to decide if our part of town needs a route. Americans will not go for it in the droves that liberals hope. And that is the problem.

Libs will attempt to push their idea of mass tranist on us very soon. The higher the price of gas goes, the happier they get. They will attempt to push their idiotic idea down our throats very soon. They are hoping that we all get fed up with high prices.

Lets all fight it at all costs. $5 per gallon is nothing compared to not being able to drive at will in your own automobile. Do not give in to the liberals on this one.

I agree with you, we need to do something.  With the record profits in the oil industry, do you really believe they want to drill here?  What confuses me is their record profits.  Don't quite understand how that is not gouging.

Here, in the bay area, I just paid $4.76 a gallon to fill up!  Craziness!

There is an online petition you can sign started by Newt Gingrich to drill now in America......I don't have the web address, but if you go to youtube and search for Chuck Norris you should be able to find it.

Hi from the Boise area!!!

None of it makes any sense.  We're paying record prices, and the oil companies are making record profits.  Then the Gov't calls the execs. in for questioning, and it all gets shoved under the table.  We all know something nasty is happening, yet there is nothing we can do about it...but to elect all new people the next time elections come around, and then we have to hope these guys aren't bribed.  If we were to keep kicking the idiots out of office come election day for their lack of doing what they are elected to do, sooner or later the message would become clear that to stay in office, a politician has to their job.  Sadly, anyone organizing such an effort would probably be quickly assassinated.

Kevin - you are of course completely correct. I just hope this electorate is smart enough to understand what is going on. Thankfully most now blame politicans and not oil companies for the higher prices. That's a start!

KEVIN, It is really frustrating isn't it!  What REALLY frustrates me is the spin the media puts on it.  There are so many people that don't really hear the REAL story of anything.  When you actually look at where they want to drill in ANWAR that tells it all but so many people don't even know that.

The Dems are against ALL oil, period.  As Harry Reid said, it makes us sick..... and they believe the higher the price of gas, the less we will use and will find more alternatives.  That may be fine some day, but in the mean time, we will go into a recession or worse.  As for the oil companies - the Wall Street Journal had a chart about the cost of gas.  The compainies make 9 cents per gallon.(profit)  The government makes 48 cents.(tax, includes state)  The profits are record breaking due to the record volume sales around the world.  Think Walmart.  They sell stuff cheaper than everyone else and they too have record profits - because they sell such a huge volume.  One barrel of oil produces 19 gallons of gas. One barrel is 42 gallons.  I believe they also get about 5 gal of jet fuel and a few gallons of heating oil.

Kevin:  You ought to do some research on offshore drilling.  Big oil has many leases on offshore sights that they aren't currently even using.  Why give them more?  Use what you got first.

Why not give them more Chris? And what about ANWR? And how about we build a refinery? ANd why don't we start constricting nuclear power stations - clean and cheap energy.

This is bigger than Democrats and Republicans.  The oil companies are raping the American public.  I talked to someone stationed in Japan and he can fill up his car forless than 20 bucks.

Posted by Jeff Payne, Panama City Real Estate (The Payne Group at Keller Williams Success Realty) almost 11 years ago

Jeff - how do you arrive at that conclusion? The price of oil is set by world markets. The margin is set by the company. You want Government to dictate to business how much margin they can make? I guarantee that you are making more than they are in percentage terms. SHould the overnment tell you how much you can make?

Posted by Simon Conway (Orlando Area Real Estate Services) almost 11 years ago

No Simon, I do not want to have government set any prices but they are doing just that when they won't tap into our oil reserves in a situation like this.

Posted by Jeff Payne, Panama City Real Estate (The Payne Group at Keller Williams Success Realty) almost 11 years ago

Oh I agree with you there Jeff. We need to drill and drill now. We have plentiful resources in this country and it is a crime to leave them in the ground while the population is suffering under high prices. the mere act of drilling will drive the price down.

Posted by Simon Conway (Orlando Area Real Estate Services) almost 11 years ago

Agreed!  The only problem is that the oil companies are raking in the record profits, why would they want to drill here?  Our government needs to do something.  We have other resources but no one seems to care.

I fully believe that driving up oil prices is just another way to push the socialist agenda.

Hugh it will not be long until we are all riding bikes and wearing little hats, like they used to in China.

I think I'd look good in one of those little hats. Actually the older I get the more I seem to be attracted to hats...wonder what the heck that's about?
