Blah, blah, blah

Dropped like a hot potato

I have picked up some good customers from this site. They read my blog and gave me a call. They saw my flag logo and really liked that I was a flag waver. I know that is hard for some to swallow around here.

I am a firm believer in this country and what it stands for. I am a firm believer in the Bill of Rights. I am a big supporter of our freedom of speech. And that brings me to the removal of Bill Burress form this site. I realize that this is a privately owned site and the owners can do anything they wish with it. If they want to kick all of us off, I support their right to do so. But, as a business owner myself, I also realize that I must keep my customers happy. If they do not like my product, my quality, or my prices, they may stop buying from me. Obviously we are not paying customers of AR, but we are customers. While we don't spend actual money to buy a product, we spend lots of time on the site. And since time is money, we are investing money into this site. Money for us in the form of time and money for AR in the form of building their business to the point that they can sell the site.

I have only been on AR since March 2008. Not very long compared to some. But now I am worried. I like for my customers to read what I have to say. They can learn about me and what I am made of. They can determine if I am the type they want to do business with. But what if everything I have invested into this site is removed by the owners? That idea scares me.

I am very seriously considering aborting my efforts on this site. After all, I could be dropped like a hot potato at any time. What do you think?

Kevin , it must be considered but I am not ready to give up just yet. What they don't take into account is they talk about 90,000 members but how many are active probably more like 1,000 ,loosing a hundred or so active members would make a difference.

Uh, about your logo...

§176. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

  • (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
  • (b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
  • (c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
  • (d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
  • (e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
  • (f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
  • (g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
  • (h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
  • (i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
  • (j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
  • (k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Yeah, I'm a liberal, But I respect our flag.

Kevin,

Please take note of Michael's reminder on how to display the flag.  It is easy to make a mistake but just as easy to correct it.

Kevin- Don't you just love when liberals get upset over the sight of the flag?

Kevin ~ Fly those colors proud. Make a liberal made today. It's Memorial Day, their worst holiday.

Larry and Nicholas,

As conservatives, perhaps even neo-conservatives, I do not understand your support for Kevin in his misuse of the flag.  It is not a conservative nor a liberal perspective.  It is respect for the flag which all sorts of Americans can appreciate.  I suspect you would both be appauled if Kevin showed photographs of his burning of the flag, as would all of us.  So why to you support his mis-use for his advertising when it is obvious that it is not to be used in such a manner?

Posted by Bill Schwent, Santa Fe Broker (Casa Tierra Realty) about 10 years ago

Bill ~ The use of this flag is to promote th love of this country. Stop your semantics and get on with you life.

You are an angry liberal just wanting to pick a fight.

If this flag offends you, don't click on Kevin's post. It is just that simple.

Get over yourself.

Kevin, I have not had any clients from a/r we did have one in the beginning, it is the same for most realotrs in our area, We have 50% over 51 in our area,, NO big techies. That is great you have clients.  I am right with you. A/R has done a great job of getting me exposure to the Christian community but we have to stay strong and fight the fight  even if it means getting off a/r. I recommend a/r to many but after this I am really not going to unless this is corrected referrals or not...

Nicholas, You are so great at making me have a great day and a great laugh..Obviously the flag was showing American Pride..do you think???Please.

What is up with follow the a/r guidelines that has nothing to do with what happened to Bill. Anyone who had the chance to search lemming or lemmens on the a/r site can see that was not what was going on here.

Liberals are great, cut off anyone that does not say what they want to hear, Flying the flag shows you are a proud American, THis is how they just ignore God's word or the bible so they don't have to answer to the Creator just their own conscious...it so much easier that way and a lot less work..I love watching liberals that the Lord has decided to reveal himself to like me,,,I had to get off that band wagon once God woke me up and you know my story literally in his light in my home..They will understand once GOd reveals himself to them if he chooses and if they don't ignore the signs...

i can see even in mourning you have not lost your sense of humor..God Bless!

I actually checked with my local US Army color gaurd detachment before using the flag photo. I happen to know a few guys in the detachment. It is not a logo in this case, in fact I do not use it anywhere else. Nick got it right in that I use it to show devotion to the country in which I live. I fly my American flag at home everyday. I also fly a POW flag most days. Lets all pray for those who have served and died for our freedoms.

  • I only called it like I read it: "They saw my flag logo and really liked that I was a flag waver."

But if you can read the law, then find a way to convince yourself that it doesn't mean you, whatever. I know I'm not going to rely on the color guard or a real estate agent to interpret such a straight forward statement as "The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever."

That's just me. 'Guess I'm not as LIBERAL as some!

Let's not forget to pray for those who are serving when we pray for those who have served and died. I need to remember that they are what this holiday is about.

  • You do take your flag down at night, or have it lit after dark, right?
Posted by Michael I. Pulskamp, REALTOR, EcoBroker, GREEN Desingnee (Mainstreet Brokers) about 10 years ago

Mike,

I take it down at night. No lights yet.

I will talk it over with my buddy in the color gaurd again. If it is wrong I will stop using it as I do on AR.

Posted by Kevin Robinson, Fractional Developer about 10 years ago

Kevin - your pride in our nation is clear for all to see. I do not believe it is an advertising logo - I just think you are clearly butt ugly *lol*.

OK - seriously now - you did the right thing. You asked the question of the right people and you are going to ask again. As for me - in my front yard, the flag flies proudly atop a 20 ft flag pole. It is lit at night and I am the only one in my entire neighborhood who flies it. I keep hoping the Homeowners Association will come along and ask me to take it down. That would be fun!

Do not forget what today is about. Too many are going to be on their boats or grilling and simply have no clue what today really is.

Kevin ~ It is not advertising if you feel you want to be a proud American realtor. I find it patriotic and I for one will do it if you choose to take it down.

You can't decide for yourself after reading the law? That, I don't get.

Don't change it because of me. I have a few flags, I fly them. One is up right now, If I went in to the office today I would raise one there also. I feel strongly about the flag, the country, and the nation and the things we do. I know America is Great when it is Good, of late, I see many things going on that are not good. It follows that the great is in jeopardy. That troubles me.

Posted by Michael I. Pulskamp, REALTOR, EcoBroker, GREEN Desingnee (Mainstreet Brokers) about 10 years ago

Mike,

I read it that the flag is not to be used a s a logo. From what I read, a picture of a flag is not the flag. What if I show a picture of a building with the flag flying on a pole as my logo? Like I said, I asked the color gaurd guys, whose job it is to protect the flag, and they said as long as I did not desecrate the flag by writing on it or changing it.

Posted by Kevin Robinson, Fractional Developer about 10 years ago

Kevin ~ Ignore the naysayers. I appreciate your love for this country and our flag. And your customers will as well. We can't please all of the people all of the time.

Don't waste valuable time on the ignorant.

I think that the AR founders are not letting us blog here out of the goodness of their hearts.

They are making money or they wouldn't be here. Without us bloggers...they'd not be making money or they'd have to find a new way to make money. I assume their money comes in the form of advertising revenue.

I find it ironic that I was told they had merged somehow with Housevalues and the next thing you know.....dissattisfaction of the members.

I never did like Housevalues!!

I once posted The First Amendment on House values forum and had it deleted. That is the absolute truth.

Kevin,

I think I will stick around for now.  I am going to do my best to stay away from the Dissent crowd, though.

Michael,

How about you take it up with the Democratic Party.  Feel free to go here and see an example of such a terrible thing and for any contact info.  While there, check out what is in the blue background behind the words "The Democratic Party".  It SURE looks like a flag to me!!  Also, I have it as part of my graphics on my web site.

God Bless The USA!!

  • John, Glad to see you are looking at the Democratic Party website, See if you can find any other sites that are using it. Please report back as soon as you have finished the list...

God Bless us all!

Michael,

So, you know there is a list but you have nothing better to do than to be on here trying to bust Kevin's chops.  Interesting!

I hope you try this hard on all the other sites, yourself.  I am not the one with the problem.

Thanks!
