If you listen to the media, the teachers of Wisonsin are underpaid. Wrong. Here is a list of their pay plus benefits as founf in public records by Larry. I am pretty sure they are doing OK.
The current budget repair bill would have them paying about 5.8% towards their own retirement....right now, we the taxpayer, pay 100% of their generous retirement, and most of us pay 100% of our own retirement too. I hopped on snopes then I hopped on the Wisconsin websites to see if this was true. It's all public information. Amazing really!
AVERAGE WAGE AND BENEFITS (remember this is for about 9 months of work)

(source:_Madison.com_ (http://madison.com/) -as the UW removed salaries from being posted online in 2007- why if they are so low?)
How about some other "public servant job" ??? What do they make?

no pension, or healthcare.)
AND WE ARE SUPPOSED TO CONTINUE PAYING 100% OF THEIR GENEROUS RETIREMENT ? THEY HAVE SHUT DOWN SCHOOLS AS THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY 5.8% OF IT THEMSELVES ....REALLY?
My .02 cents???? This was forwarded to me. I know a few people who work in Milwaukee Public Schools and they told me that they didn't want to go to the protests, but that the Union called them and told them that they needed to be there and they need to bring their kids, or else. The husband told the wife to go, but not to let the union know that they will be hearing from their attorneys if they kept harassing them. They are members of the unions, but they were grateful for what they had and didn't want to push things further because they thought that what they had was more than the average worker. They were pissed.
I know a lot of teachers in Illinois who've said that they'll take Wisconsin's paycut because for most Illinois public teachers, it'd be a huge pay raise. Just my .02 cents!
