Anti-Worker

Before you hire me to replace your roof, you ask me a few questions. Stuff like how much will it cost, have you ever done this before, do you warranty your work, do you have any pictures of past work, and can we call some of your past clients? The basics.

Using those criteria to hire a roofer, I have learned this week, is anti-worker. Expecting me to perform at my job is a crock. You should simply pay me just for showing up. And when I tell you that I do not work Fridays, do not get mad. You are not in charge of your roof. I am.

I will force you to pay me what I think is the going rate. You will fund my retirement and vacation, and if you do not, you will get called anti-worker. You have no choice. Do not expect a good roof. Just expect me to finish it sometime.

I had better get my union rep. on the phone.

Yes, that sounds about par for the course these days.  Good luck with your roof!

We are all really careful about who we hire to do work on our home, but will give someone carte blanche to teach our kids. Just beacuse they have a degree and have done it for a long time, does not make them ENTITLED to tell us how much to pay them. It is our house.

I was really proud of my state legislature yesterday as they cut all collective bargaining rights for state employees.
