Farewell To An American Hero

I saw this yesterday in just one place. I didn't see it on any on the major news channels. I didn't hear President Obama mention this in his radio address even though he paid tribute to the military in his remarks. Seems like this would have gotten a mention.

Yesterday, America lost a superhero that frankly not many people knew about. I was not familiar with his story.

Let's change that. Let's remember Robert Howard of Texas.

He was the only person in US history to be nominated for the Medal of Honor 3 times! A person can only be awarded it once, but three times his actions warranted the nomination.

He served 5 tours of duty as a Green Beret in Vietnam. He was wounded 14 times in 4½ years of combat, for which he received 8 Purple hearts.

President Nixon awarded Howard the Medal of Honor in 1971 after his second nomination. He received the Distinguished Service Cross and the Silver Star after his other two nominations.

Thank you Robert Howard for your service and dedication. America has lost a patriot.

Kevin,

Since this story is largely being ignored in the formal press, we have to do our part to spread the word. Thanks. :)

Thanks so much Kevin.  I was trying to surf around and spread some "steam" for my recent "get real" post, looking for like-minded patriotic Rainers, and I saw your comment on another post, which led me to check you out.  I just finished Lone Survivor by Marcus Lutrell, and I think it is the best I've ever read; to say the least, a new (perhaps renewed) appreciation for our special forces--well, like I said, to say the least.  I too was not familiar with Superhero Robert Howard, and I will now turn to and make myself and others more familiar.  I'll do my part (Steve) too...
