Pirate handling

Why don't we nuke the living $%^* out of the Somali pirates? We have the number one Navy in the world. We do not answer to any other countries. The dumb pirates have taken hostage an American citizen and they must pay and pay now.

I am sure that our State Department, led by the lady in a pantsuit, will try to open some type of hugging negotiations with these guys. We will let them know that we love them and that if they had a bad childhood our government will even give them some type of stimulus. Maybe we could arrange for their leader to get an IPOD loaded with videos of our leaders best speeches of all time.

Yep. It is time. Either we let these guys have it or we put up with them sticking us up for years to come. I think we all know what will happen.

I think we do know what will happen.  It is like the Carter years all over again but worse.

Funny, they got a Ukrainian vessel with tanks and other weapons. And they demanded $20 Mil. They finally setteld on $3 Mil, and they were let go. Incredible. Make not sense to anybody, except to Russians, who are now negotiating open military bases in Somali and in exchange promising to wipe out the pirates, as their real bases are inside the country.

I am not a radical.  But, what these people are doing has to be stopped.  I cannot believe this is happening in this day and age.  Cargo ships should not need military escorts.  And, I can't believe how they gain access to an oceanliner.  How?  Don't tell me because more people need not know.  It baffles me, though.

The cure is simple. Sink all their boats, skiffs, row boats, little boats, and big boats. As far as needing to fish for a living, toss a line off the shore.

A couple of F14's off the carrier that is protecting the main shipping lanes should put a crimp in their business plan.

The only people who dont steal out of necessity are the rich who already have everything. I would actually bother to answer this if it werent asked in a sexist manner. But usually the person whose solution is just to blow everyone up is probably not the smartest person to be asking questions.

As I know my friends in the military would love just let them off the leash. The Navy and Marines know what to do just let them.  Take politics out of the picture and it becomes much more clear.  Same as with our "free market"  if the government would get out of the picture that would clear up also.

We are sadly on the wrong road of apologies and contrition and compromise...we are at least 2 years away from anything else....and in the meantime? all we can hope for is we don't get hit again.

Marchel

You hit the nail on the head.....I know that  sinking feeling .  You are so right. The way J.C. handled terrorist was downright cowardly . It was kind of like taking "Carter's Pills" Isn't that a laxative?

Reading those kinds news make me think the US Navy may have private deal with those pirates. We all know they do not but they ACT so.

Posted by real estate real estate about 10 years ago

Hopefully the situation will play out and the captain will be returned safely and the pirate ship will get blown to hell. Since this is happening in international waters, there is no way to bring these pirates to justice. So while nuking would not work so well, I think Kevin is on to something. Conventional weapons would work just fine. The problem is where that could lead. The end result could be much worse.

Marchel: Please tell us how awful it is for you. Please spell out in detail how Obama is like Carter and how, after 77 days in office his administration is going to be worse than Carter's. Do you posess a crystal ball? I will eagerly await your response.

Trey: I seem to remeber Carter trying to rescue the hostages and the mission failed, helicopters crashing and such. How was this cowardly. Just what would have you done differently? Again, waiting eagerly for your response.

Karen: You comment is probably one of the most asine I have seen on AR. I have seen a bunch from the conservatives and enjoy the dialog, but your hit and run comment is offensive. Hit again?

Shane - are confessing to being a thief or are you one of evil rich? And sexist, isn't that a common description of our Secretary of State, used when Mrs. Clinton was in the senate, presidential candidate and now secretary of state? The pantsuit has kind of become here symbol.

Kevin - Perhaps we should randomly place special forces teams on some of these ships, kind of like sea marshalls.

Scott - the Carter rescue was poorly planned and executed, very much like the so called stimulus plan is today. However, in the meantime, Ross Perot was able to get in and rescue a couple of his employees that were taken hostage. Perhaps Carter should have outsourced the attempt.

Mike: So, how was Carter a coward? I still don't get that.

Posted by Scott Smith, Gloucester & Rockport, Massachusetts (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage) about 10 years ago

Kevin, It is not like these hijackings have just started, but notice how no Americans were attacked when we had a president who stood up for our country. Less than three months and we are already just another target because they know our president is either weak or just plain out for the destruction of our country.

Scott - I never called him a coward, so why are you asking me? But a bunny scared him while he was in a canoe. And, he was quite incompetent.

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) about 10 years ago

Actually Mike, bunnies can be quite scary when you are in a canoe.

Terry- I may have to get a kid over here to explain tongue in cheek humor to you.

Posted by Kevin Robinson, Fractional Developer about 10 years ago

Mike: My sincerest apologies. It was Trey who called Carter a coward.

Posted by Scott Smith, Gloucester & Rockport, Massachusetts (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage) about 10 years ago

Kevin, there is nothing humorous about talking about nuking anyone!

Posted by Terry Haugen STAGE it RIGHT! 321-956-2495 (Stage it Right!) about 10 years ago

Reading through everything again. I have two other comments. First, I agree with Terry, nuking people is not a good idea at all. Secondly, the only possible way to deter pirates (another form of terrism) is to fight back. They are not reasonable at all. Politics does not work either.

Before anyone comments on Somali piracy again, please take the time to educate yourselves on what's going on.  I'm reading a lot of comments that make it clear to me posters have no clue about it.  I'm almost embarrased for some of you.

Kevin-The whole world is watching us and taking notes on our weakness.  Four pirates are holding 1 man in a boat that has no gas.  The Navy needs to give them 2 minutes to surrender or they will fire on the boat.  If they don't throw their guns overboard they will be killed.

We should then go to their "mother ship" and sink it.

The obama plan is to have the FBI cut a deal with the pirates.  I promise you everyone on the Navy ship are banging their heads against the side of the ship!  130,000 GIs in Iraq are wondering how our new found weakness will put their lives in danger in the morning.

This is a preview of things to come, tonight 4 pirates are holding America hostage.  If the obamas can not get this right what happens when something really serious happens?  God help us.

Kevin,

I've been reading your posts and you really need to think things through before putting anything into print. I'm serious. Your posts are all in the same vein. Cooler heads than you are looking after things, thank God.

I heard Mrs. Clinton literally giggling on the news while talking about the pirates yesterday.  That's crazy.  She is supposed to be a professional.  I'm with you, what are they waiting for???
