1776 May Be Closer Than We Think

I just read where some guy who was on survivor has been ordered to prison for failure to pay taxes. Wow!Kinda reminds me of Wesley Snipes and his little 3 year prison stint for the same thing.

Now I realize that is not a crime to owe the IRS but that it is a crime to not file your proper tax forms. That I understand. But...

Why would Wesley Snipes get 3 years for not filing the proper forms with the IRS while some guy who gets drunk and runs over a little kid gets 5 years probation?

This Survivor guy has done it before so they are after him. How dare he not report to the IRS how much he made.

Prison time for failing to file is way over the top. I could see penalties and levies and all of that but not prison. Debtors prison is an old term but apparently our IRS uses it frequently.

Didn't some of our ancestors have a little thing called the Revolution about this once upon a time?
